Omicron Covid-19 subvariant under observation
The Omicron EG.5 subvariant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus could become dominant in some countries, at least according to mathematical models that estimate its ability to spread rapidly and therefore to be kept under observation and that international health organizations evaluate as a variant of interest even if it does not pose particular problems compared as effects on the organism to other subvariants (for example XBB.1.5 and XBB.1.6), but in fragile individuals or with weakened immune systems it could pose a risk so in these cases it is advisable to protect yourself. As for the available vaccines it is assumed that the new subvariant is very skilled in circumventing their coverage; in fact, in practice with each Covid wave the virus adapts better and better to live with humans with small mutations that must also be taken into account with regard to the impact on the population.
