A cigarette-free future in New Zealand

It is estimated that every year there are five thousand victims in New Zealand due to cigarette smoking, fourteen a day with two out of three smokers who will lose their lives for this reason, one of the main causes in the country on which to intervene in the prevention of premature deaths; so the authorities would have decided to ban young people from 2027 the purchase of cigarette packets in addition to reducing the number of authorized tobacco resales and cutting nicotine levels in all products, in stages starting from 2024 - 2025. With these measures is aim at a generation free from tobacco from 2027 (it will also be necessary to agree with the Maori health authorities from the end of 2022) considering that four out of five smokers start before eighteen years even if it is feared in the black market for this type of sales.
