Avian flu disinfection in New York
The New York authorities would have announced five days of suspension of market activities to proceed with cleaning and disinfection due to cases of avian flu infections; a measure that extends to the counties of Westchester, Suffolk and Nassau to prevent further spread of infections. There is talk of some health concern even if for the moment international organizations say that the risk to the population from H5N1 avian influenza remains low, but recently a man (already in precarious health conditions) died after being exposed to the contagion of a "combination" of viruses from poultry and wild birds. Since April nearly seventy people in the United States have been infected with bird flu, most of them people who had been infected for close contact with saliva, mucus and animal feces.
