Chinese health authorities suspect that the peak of more than twenty thousand infections detected in one day in the metropolis of Shanghai monitored despite the total quarantine of the city was due to a very contagious mutation of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus identified near Shanghai. This is the highest daily peak since the beginning of the pandemic in Wuhan although in this case there are no victims; then most people apparently are asymptomatic, but some complain about the lack of fresh foods. The whole country supports the effort to have a blocked metropolis, partially minimizing the losses that can be linked to the so-called zero-Covid strategy. Of note shifting attention to Italy that is estimated one every four people have been infected, there is talk of a certain relaxation in containment measures; over one hundred and sixty thousand victims.
